The Hotel Maier zum Kirschner supports the Wings for Life World Run in Rottach-Egern

On May 4, 2025, the time had come again: The Wings for Life World Run stopped in Rottach-Egern and transformed the lakeside promenade on Rottach Bay into a meeting place for sport, community, and solidarity. On that day, 310,719 runners worldwide took part and collectively raised €8.6 million for spinal cord research – an impressive sign of how much can be achieved through solidarity and commitment.

The enthusiasm was palpable in Rottach-Egern, too: Over 2,500 kilometers were run, contributing to further advancing research into a cure for spinal cord injury. An event like this thrives on the support of many – and the Hotel Maier zum Kirschner was a very special partner this year.

Strong Local Partnership
As a traditional, family-run hotel in the heart of Rottach-Egern, the Hotel Maier zum Kirschner is firmly rooted in the region. For the team, it was a given to actively support the Wings for Life World Run: With e-bikes for the organization, financial assistance, and spontaneous support with catering for participants after the run, the hotel demonstrated how valuable local commitment is for the success of an international charity event.

Franz Maier, restaurateur, hotelier and passionate hunter, combines his love of hunting with his passion for good food. In his restaurant “Kirschner Stuben” in the family-run Hotel Maier zum Kirschner, game from his own hunt is served on the table, which stands for freshness, sustainability and regionality.

The hunting tradition is deeply rooted in Franz Maier’s family, and it not only enriches the cuisine of his restaurant, but also contributes to maintaining the natural balance. Since yesterday, December 10, 2023, the Miesbach district has been a member of the Munich Transport and Tariff Association (MVV). Little changes for your guests:
With the guest card and TegernseeCard, guests can continue to use the bus network as usual (zones 6 – 9).

New: Guests can now also travel to Moosrain free of charge with the BRB.

“Around 1.8 million children in Germany suffer an accident every year – be it in kindergarten, at school, while playing or on the road. This means that on average every 18 seconds a child needs medical attention after an accident”

And by no means always can the parents be there immediately to comfort and soothe. Children think and feel differently than adults and are even less able to deal with pain because they do not understand it. In addition, there are strangers and a frightening environment in the ambulance and hospital. What is bad enough for adults becomes even worse for children.

The association Kleinepatienten in Not e.V. has therefore made it its task to support children in emergency situations in particular and to take care of child-friendly first aid and care.

About Gusto

The restaurants and country inns recommended in the GUSTO guide are visited by the experienced testers anonymously, without prior consultation, as normal reserving and paying guests. All of our testing employees have in-depth professional background knowledge and a lot of experience with top gastronomy at home and abroad. Some have gastronomic training and have already worked as cooks or service staff in good houses, some are just gastro-mad career changers, professional hobby cooks, wine experts, journalists with a focus on travel and enjoyment.

Criteria when evaluating the restaurants and when classifying the kitchen performance

There are two categories here, which are separate from each other: on the one hand the kitchen performance and on the other hand the entire equipment, the ambience, the service quality or the wine and beverage offer of the restaurant. An upscale, award-worthy kitchen performance is awarded and classified with our pan symbol and point scale from 5 to 10 pans – for all other criteria the cutlery symbols stand for 1 to 5, which symbolically stands for a simple country inn to a luxury restaurant.

The Gusto pans

With the Gusto pans, only the kitchen performance of the respective restaurant is evaluated. The establishments awarded Pans offer cuisine that is particularly noteworthy in its category. We deliberately only use the imaginary rating scale of one to ten pans from five pans upwards, because in our opinion this is the threshold from simple, orderly and solid kitchen to above-average kitchen; in other words, a notable kitchen performance in its respective category. The “Pan Level” is intended to be a distinction and at the same time an incentive – the award-winning restaurants should stand out from the other addresses with this symbol and an evaluation. On the other hand, we think it is pointless and actually superfluous to also differentiate the kitchen performance in the area below the 5-pan level.

In any case, however, the following applies: Even in a house listed without pans, you can dine well. Depending on the occasion, expectations and taking into account the respective price level, the houses that have not been awarded a pan are also recommended.

For us, the harmony of the dishes always comes before creativity, careful preparation and good products before visual finesse. In the best case, however, all these criteria result in a harmonious whole.
